Carnival 2004 - February 23 & 24, 2004

The festival of carnival is a 4-6 week celebration of the local culture of Trinidad & Tobago. Occurring at the beginning of each year it culminates in a two-day street parade that is immediately followed by a period of religious observance by the Roman Catholic population.

In the weeks leading up to the street parade there is a flurry of activity with many events - fetes (or parties), calypso, soca, chutney soca shows and competitions, costume competitions, steelpan competitions being some of the key activities.

Fetes come in many forms and range from mass market events to exclusive all-inclusive premium parties. This year the Heineken brand was involved in over 60 of these events, seeking out the young and the young at heart. The competition with other premium brands was keen and was spurred on by the high visibility and consumption of Heineken. The crowd at the season's biggest fete - the Caribbean Brass Festival - was treated to the best of Heineken's hospitality, premium beer, special giveaways, and a laser light show that moved even the Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago to wave his Heineken bandana to the music.

Calypso, soca, and chutney soca shows were also a major focus of the Heineken brand which was the exclusive beer sponsor for the main chutney soca event.

The #1 costumed band of the year, in downtown Port of Spain, was sponsored by Heineken. They paraded the streets to the sweet sounds of the Heineken sponsored local music band Atlantik. The front line of Atlantik features Destra Garcia - the first runner up in the extremely competitive race for the 'Road March' Champion.

All in all it was a green carnival, a Heineken carnival. It could only be Heineken!
