Red Bull QuickHit - A fast paced, street-wise version of the standard game of cricket
Thursday 17th August, 2009 - Port of Spain, Trinidad: Starting this September a new version of the game of cricket will revolutionize the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. As its name implies, Red Bull QuickHit is a fast paced, shortened version of standard windball cricket. It focuses on speed, technique and accuracy with games taking a maximum of 15 minutes to complete as opposed to standard Test Matches (5days), One-Day Internationals (8hrs) or Twenty20 (3hours).
Red Bull QuickHit focuses on the fast and exciting qualities of the game while still maintaining the core techniques and principles of the sport. The standard rules of windball cricket apply, however, where Red Bull QuickHit differs is that it features 2 teams, 2 players and 2 overs, with the team that scores the most runs in the allotted overs being declared the winner.
In Red Bull QuickHit, there are no fielders and each member of the team must bowl one over while the other acts as the wicket keeper. The runs are scored when shots are played within specific areas of the field and bonus points are scored if the ball hits one of the markers on the boundary.
After months of testing with local cricketing stakeholders such as World Record holder Brian Lara, current West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, Azad Ali -from Paradigm Sports- and Valentino Singh Sports Editor Trinidad Guardian, Red Bull will be embarking on Street Activations of the game across Trinidad over the next month to introduce the concept to the general public in an effort to gear up interest for the upcoming Red Bull QuickHit tournament. This tournament will see qualifiers taking place every Sunday in the month of September with the grand finals scheduled for October 18th at a unique street venue to be announced.
